OPC10: "Hope Can Change Everything" Tops June Chart

There may be less activity for the past weeks on this blog but the OPC10 rolls on, and here's our Top 10 for the month of June. Topping the chart is a collaboration of some of today's top Christian artists: Bart Millard of MercyMe, Francesca Battistelli, Jamie Grace, Jeremy Camp, Matt Maher, and Dave Frey of Sidewalk Prophets. Entitled "Hope Can Change Everything," the track has been released for World Hope's efforts in the Revival of Detroit and was performed live at the 2nd Annual K-LOVE Fan Awards.

Francesca Battistelli, "Write Your Story" [OPC10 Apr 2014]

American singer-songwriter Francesca Battistelli has recently released her third studio album If We're Honest, and its first single is currently making a huge impact on Christian radio. May this be the prayer we pray, as the song talks about letting God be the author of our lives. Here's "Write Your Story" performed live as it finishes at #3 on the April edition of the OPC10:

I'm a Goo Goo Dolls fan, so when I heard that their lead singer John Rzeznik is featured in a new song by Cash Cash, I immediately checked it out. I don't know if it was the Goo factor, but I instantly liked it. Here's "Lightning" which finishes at #9 on the monthly tally for March 2014.

Josh Wilson, "Pushing Back the Dark" [OPC10 Feb 2014]

After taking the #7 spot on the OPC10 chart in January, Josh Wilson is once again #7 in our latest monthly tally. Co-written by Matthew West (who is also at #5 with "Do Something") and James Tealy, this single from the album Carry Me is an encouraging track that tells us to not lose heart, and to always keep our light shining so we could persist on "Pushing Back the Dark." Skillet, "Not Gonna Die" [OPC10 January 2014]

Skillet has finally released the music video for their single "Not Gonna Die," which also happens to be this blog's top song for the first month of 2014. The song has a powerful message, telling us that we should not give up and lose hope on the verge of being defeated. Instead, we should stand our ground, fight, and take our life back from the enemy.

Former American Idol finalist Mandisa is out with a new album, and its title track is a refreshing, catchy and even danceable song that encourages, uplifts and inspires. It tells us that whatever it is that we're going through, no matter how down we may feel, we have to keep fighting because there's is hope and we will overcome the challenges we are facing. Barenaked Ladies, "Odds Are" [OPC10 August 2013]

Longstanding Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies is back, and they finish at #8 on the latest monthly tally of the OPC10. Although they had their first major album way back in 1992, it wasn't until six years later when they released Stunt, which spawned "One Week" and "It's All Been Done", the tracks that got me acquainted to their music. Since then, I've also liked their songs "Pinch Me" and "Another Postcard", and now their most recent single has been added to that list. I haven't really heard much from Eve after she scored a #1 hit in 2001 with "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" featuring No Doubt's Gwen Stefani. But 12 years later, she's back with a track that's got hit written all over it. She collaborates with Cobra Starship's Gabe Saporta and together, they're gonna "Make It Out This Town" as they go their way to the top of the charts. Daniel Padilla, "Nasa Iyo na ang Lahat" [OPC10 Feb '13]

Daniel Padilla has run away with four out of the five people's choice awards on the recent Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs finals night. With the exception of the TFC Choice Award where he was runner-up, he went on to get the MYX Best Music Video and landed first place on MOR and Tambayan voting, as well as in the Star Records sales. "Nasa Iyo na ang Lahat" is indeed a catchy, radio-friendly track that even got a bigger boost by having been interpreted by one of the popular teenage heartthrobs of today. Written by Jungee Marcelo, the song also finishes second on the OPC10 Pinoy tally for February, and third overall. Here's its official music video, produced by the Ateneo de Manila University:

Bea Binene, "Urong Sulong" [OPC10 November 2012]

Kris Allen is the overall king on the latest monthly tally with "Better with You". On the Pinoy chart, it's Julie Anne San Jose who takes the bacon home and that's no surprise as "Enough" swept the November weeklies. What's a pleasant surprise though, is Bea Binene. When I first listened to this track, I was ready to dismiss it as just another cover, but she proved it otherwise. I actually liked her version. She nails it as she does a refreshing take on this Regine Velasquez original. Her voice is also well-suited for the song. I first learned about Britt Nicole in 2007, when I heard her song "You" (click here to watch). Fast forward to this year, and she's back with a new album called Gold.
