Newsboys, "We Believe" [OPC Hits 2014.2.02]

The first OPC Hits of February features the return of not just one but two of this blog's favorite artists. On the lower half, Vertical Horizon reenters the chart at #9 as the music video for their current single "Broken Over You" has just been released. While on the upper half, the Newsboys, last year's chart-topper on OPC's Praise 40 of 2013, runs away with another #1 song from their album Restart. Here's "We Believe," performed live at the Ocean Way Studios in Nashville.

Newsboys, "Live with Abandon" [OPC10 2013.10.13]

After falling out of the OPC10, the current single of the Newsboys makes a big time resurgence as its music video has now been released. From the album Restart, the song is all about giving yourself up and giving everything to God. "Live with Abandon" re-enters the Overall Picks chart at #1. And as their drummer Duncan Phillips puts it in his tweet: "Admire without jealousy. Praise without flattery. Follow without imitating. Lead without manipulating. Live with abandon."

Newsboys, "Your Love Never Fails" [OPC10 2013.2.24]

The Newsboys enters the OPC10 with the second single off their album God's Not Dead. First recorded by Chris McClarney, their follow-up to the title track is a praise and worship song that talks about God's unchanging and unfailing love. While the original is more personal and reflective, this version is arranged in a more upbeat and celebratory manner.

Upon knowing that this song bears the same title as McClarney's song, the thought that came to my mind was: "Is this a cover or an original?" But what's amazing was that when I heard it for the first time, it wasn't until the chorus that I realized it is indeed the same song. So, hats off to Michael Tait and the band for doing a great job in making this song their own, although I would have preferred them to have also kept the "Thank you, Jesus" ad lib on the second verse instead of just singing "Oh no, oh no, yeah."

Still, the song is a very beautiful reminder that indeed, nothing can separate us from God's love, that He has new mercy for us everyday, and that He makes all things work together for our good. Listen to "Your Love Never Fails" below, as it debuts at #1 on the Overall Picks chart this week:
