Praise 40 of 2025

I have several praise anthems this year, songs that were put on repeat at one point or another – from worship ("Mighty Name of Jesus") to rejoicing ("Celebration"), and from living with purpose ("Preach") to prayer ("Help"). But claiming the #1 spot is a track about not quitting and instead, winning our challenges in life. Tauren Wells tops the yearend tally after "Fight Like Heaven" spent five weeks at #1! It very well says we can fight, knowing that victory in God is certain. Here's its official lyric video, and the full Top 40 list this year:

OPC Praise 40 of 2019

American Christian rock band Skillet has found themselves consistently inside the Top 20 of this blog’s year-end tallies in the past few years. In 2016, “Feel Invincible” occupied #11 on the Pop Edition, while “Stars” shined through at #16 on the Praise Edition. The year after, “I Want to Live” survived at #7 on the Pop 40 of 2017, while last year, “Breaking Free” broke free at #6 on the Pop 40 of 2018. Their previous best finish was on the Praise 40 of 2014, where “What I Believe” stood with conviction at #13 and “Not Gonna Die” lived on at #3.

This year, in addition to also getting a good landing on the Pop Edition, they finally bag the topmost plum on our Christian year-end chart. After taking the top spot thrice in a 15-week chart run, they reign supreme, steadying themselves as they cling to the One who never gets broken through every wave of the storm. Here’s “Anchor” at #1, as well as the full list of OPC’s Praise 40 of 2019.

OPC Praise 40 of 2017

Before we go full throttle into 2018, we have one more year-end chart here on this blog, this time covering the Top 40 Praise & Worship and CCM tracks of the year. This is still still based on my weekly tallies, personal favorites, and Spotify rankings ("Your Top Songs 2017").

Husband and wife duo Grayson Reed might have fallen short on our Pop 40 chart, but they secure the top spot in our Praise 40 of 2017! Their second single from their album Walk has a very powerful message – that God can and will use the rain in your life to make you "Bloom"!

Zach Williams, Kerrie Roberts, Mandisa improve from their respective 2016 finishes with their 2017 offerings which take second to fourth places. Newcomer Consumed by Fire rounds up the Top 5 with "I Need You God." For the rest of the entries, check out the list and give it a listen by playing the Spotify playlist embedded below.

OPC Praise 40 of 2016

American CCM artist Chris Tomlin takes the #1 spot on this blog's Praise 40 of 2016. After five weeks atop our weekly Praise Parade, the most by any artist this year, he was able to best other fave tracks such as "One Step Away" by the Casting Crowns and "Only You" by Hawk Nelson. What's really striking for me about this song is how it brings to attention how hurt God the Father must have felt when His Son was on the cross, he had to look away. As another year is under way, may we be reminded that of the sacrifice of the "God of Calvary." By His wounds, we are set free; By His blood, we have been redeemed! Praise Him!

OPC Praise 40 of 2015

After the Top Pinoy Songs of 2015, we got more year-end chart goodness here at OPC. And in our aggregate Praise Parade results, we have sixteen artists returning from last year, including two whose entries were able to stay on the chart for the second consecutive year (Kerrie Roberts, "My Heart's Lifted" at #37; Planetshakers, "This Is Our Time" at #19)!

Last year's top artist Francesca Battistelli manages to stay in the Top 10 with "Holy Spirit" at #10, while Owl City improves from last year's third runner-up finish with "My Everything" at #2. Hawk Nelson has the most entries on the chart with four, two of which are inside the Top 10.

And after their sweet finish at #16 last year, American contemporary Christian music band MercyMe soars highest on the OPC Praise 40 of 2015. Just like their song about how Jesus has made us unblemished through His finished work on the cross, Bart Millard, Nathan Cochran, Michael John Scheuchzer, Robin Shaffer and Barry Graul are also "Flawless" at #1.

OPC Praise 40 of 2014

The year is coming to a close, and that means it's time to wrap it up with the OPC Year-end Charts. For the Top 40 Praise songs, eight artists who made it to last year's edition also have entries on this year's edition, with the 2013 chart-toppers Newsboys finding themselves at #30 with "We Believe." Britt Nicole ("You're Not Alone" with Owl City at #4) and Building 429 ("Press On" featuring Group 1 Crew's Blanca Callahan at #10) found help to keep themselves in the Top 10 for two years in a row.

2014 highlights the entry of our country's very own Victory Worship who grabs the 22nd spot with "Radical Love." And another highlight is We Are Leo's fourth straight year-end chart appearance ("Live for Love" at #7 in 2011, "Supernova Sunrise at #1 in 2012, and "Oxygen" at #15 last year) with "You're the Best Thing" finishing at #6.

But it's certainly Francesca Battistelli's year as she not only has three songs on our annual tally (two of them in the top ten), she also tops the list with a song that reminds us that our own life story becomes the best when we don't try to write it ourselves, but when we let God write it instead. From the album If We're Honest, here's a live acoustic performance of "Write Your Story," this year's #1 Praise song on OPC:

OPC Praise 40 of 2013

2013 is the year of the Newsboys as they take two of the top three spots in OPC's Year-End Praise 40 chart. Their single "Your Love Never Fails" rules the tally after also taking the #1 spot in the OPC10 in last year's first quarter. However, I would like to deviate from featuring the top entry in the year-end list and instead give you a song occupying #30. While this song didn't make it to the weeklies (OPC10 follows a certain formula which prevented the track from charting), it has such a powerful declaration of saying goodbye to regret, defeat and lies, and saying hello to salvation, transformation, freedom and the One True King's amazing grace. Here's Matthew West with "Hello, My Name Is":
