Woku: The Sony Walkman NWZ-B172F

It’s been awhile since I’ve had a dedicated music player. Since my GoGear broke, I have been using my Nokia X1-01 to listen to songs on the radio or in my library. Though it does give me my fill of sound, it proves lacking in features that I think are essential to enjoy music the way I want to. It can’t even shuffle songs correctly and chances are, one or two songs get to be played twice in a span of an hour (and to think it had more than 120 songs to choose from).

Well, big thanks to my Godsend Debbie, I now have a Sony Walkman NWZ-B172F, which I just officially named Woku. It’s a 2GB portable music player that meets my needs and even more. Here are some of its remarkable features that got me raising my two thumbs up:

The Jobseeker and the Coffee

A jobseeker applied for work at Company A and Company B. He passed the interviews of both companies, and soon, he was given their respective job offers. The offers were almost identical – salary, perks and privileges. But in one minor difference, Company A revealed that a small benefit that their employees can avail of is the discounted price of drinks from their vending machine – coffee costs only P1 per cup. Company B, on the other hand, allowed their employees to have unlimited drinks from their vending machine, for free!

Being the coffee lover that he is, not to mention he also loves everything that's free, he decided to take the job at Company B. On his first day, he learned some good news and bad news. The good news: The unlimited coffee is true. The bad news: On the vending machine, is a glaring notice, mentioning the bad effects of having too much coffee. As he also cared for his health, he made an effort to only consume two to three cups per day, which was still within the normal intake. It was far less than the unlimited cups he imagined, but at least he is able to save P2.00 to P3.00 daily.

New lyrics by JP Cabrales
[Download MP3]

Wa na koy cellphone
Gikawat gahapon
Kay nagtinanga man gud ko
Wa ko kabantay
Karon nagmahay
Mabawi pa kaha ko to

Wala na koy pangtawag o pang-text
Hurot pug kawala akong pics
Bag-ong phone wa koy ikapalit
Di na ko ma-contact, kapait
Wa na koy cellphone

Neverending Weekend, "Say It All Now" [OPC10 8.5.12]

I actually discovered a lot of new songs this week, but only six are able to make it to the Top 10 lists. Overall, Cody Simpson, Karmin and Example debut with their respective tracks from #6 to #8, while on the OPM tally, Krissy & Ericka and Tweens of Pop debut at #2 and #3.

The 8th Pinoy pick is our 6th new entry, from a band called Neverending Weekend. This song is not really new (it was released in December 2010 and went to #1 on Killer Bee Cebu's Indie Weekly Top 20 for five straight weeks), but it's just now that I stumbled upon it. Watch "Say It All Now" and check out the latest charts below, then visit the Facebook page of this Cebuano talent for more weekends that (you wish) would never end.

Monophonic Ringtones: "Payphone" and More

Way back the days of the Nokia 3210 and 3310, creating monophonic ringtones via the phone's Composer function was quite popular. If a ringtone to a tune I liked was not available, I tabbed them on my own. Fast forward to today, and that feature is back on my Nokia X1-01. I then tabbed "Payphone" and made it my ringtone. Here is the said ringtone plus some older monotones I was able to tab before, and as published on my now defunct Talkthrough blog:
