How to Fix: Phantom Unread Message Notice on Android

The problem: Your Android phone's stock Messaging application says there is one unread message, even though all the messages in your SMS inbox have already been read.

The solution: Install AVG Memory & Cache Cleaner from AVG Mobile. Open the app, go to Calls & Messages, tick the Received (unread) checkbox under Text messages and press the Clean button. Tap OK when it tells you that your device is looking cleaner.

When you go to back to your Messaging application, the phantom notice will already be gone.

This year, Laura's story (pun intended) continues with another album and another song. This time, she tells us no matter what difficulties you are facing now, God is still in control and He's still the God of your story. It reminds us that though we may not understand at times, God is still faithful and He will carry you through victorious in the end. Sergio OsmeƱa Day: How Would You Spend P50?

Today, September 9, is Sergio OsmeƱa Sr. Day, a local holiday for the entire province of Cebu. And earlier on the Morning Madness, since it's the day of the man on the P50 bill, I asked the listeners how they would spend this amount. Here were some of the answers:

Shane Filan, "Everything to Me" [OPC10 2013.9.01]

Former Westlife lead singer Shane Filan is now on his own, and his first single has landed atop the OPC10. His debut track from the upcoming album You and Me has been received positively by critics and fans alike, this blogger included. His solo career is actually a fresh start for him as he went into bankruptcy last year as a result of losing his investments. On a personal note, I hope he makes the most of his second chance and have a successful run on the music scene again. Here's the official music video of "Everything to Me" and this week's charts:

Barenaked Ladies, "Odds Are" [OPC10 August 2013]

Longstanding Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies is back, and they finish at #8 on the latest monthly tally of the OPC10. Although they had their first major album way back in 1992, it wasn't until six years later when they released Stunt, which spawned "One Week" and "It's All Been Done", the tracks that got me acquainted to their music. Since then, I've also liked their songs "Pinch Me" and "Another Postcard", and now their most recent single has been added to that list. Here's the band performing "Odds Are" at the Billboard Studio, followed by this blog's top hits for August 2013:

Sam, Tippy & Quest, "Dati" [OPC10 2013.8.18]

I was a little late in lending my ears to this year's Philpop entries. The champion has long been determined when I listened to the tracks the past week, but I say I definitely agree with which entry was chosen as the winning song. Composed by songwriting duo and real-life sweethearts, Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana, "Dati" is interpreted by Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos and OPC-favorite Quest. Shop with David's Visa

So she's a he named David?! Or did she just find the Visa that David lost?
I guess it would have been better if they paid attention to the gender of
the model and the name printed on the card. Found in SM City Cebu.

The Wanted, "Walks Like Rihanna" [OPC10 2013.7.14]

English-Irish boy band The Wanted has just scored their eighth Top 10 song on the UK charts with their latest single from their upcoming third studio album. Similar to Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger", looks like putting a popular celebrity name on a catchy tune is a formula to a sure-fire hit. Its music video is even nostalgic with scenes parodying NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" and the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way". Here's "Walks Like Rihanna" which dips to #10 on the OPC10 this week:

At Home and on the Road

Home Radio. This announcement comes six weeks late, but nevertheless, I am delighted to tell you all that I am now back on-air since June at 106.7 Home Radio Cebu. I'm once again having a whole lot of fun in carrying on with my duties as a radio disk jockey that would give a jumpstart to the listener's day. I am thankful for this opportunity, and I do hope to really brighten up your mornings with some crazy stuff you'll love and enjoy. So I'm inviting all of you to join me and listen to the Morning Madness from Mondays to Saturdays, 6 to 10am. Tune in or stream in as I dish out your daily radio-vitamin while playing today's hit music!

Morpheus Road. I just recently finished reading the Morpheus Road trilogy. I am not actually into ghost stories but given the fact that it was written by my favorite D.J. MacHale of Pendragon fame, I just had to read it. The books tell the story of best friends Marshall and Cooper, and their adventures in The Light, The Black and The Blood. Looking back, I thought it would be scary, but it really wasn't. It was a good read, and I recommend it to those who are looking for suspense and thrill. Now, I'm looking forward to the author's new series Sylo; its first book has just been released this month.

Building 429, "We Won't Be Shaken" [OPC10 Q2 2013]

Building 429 has captured my ears since they debuted with "Glory Defined" way back 2004. True to their band name based on Ephesians 4:29 to build people up, they continue to make one hit after another that provide inspiration and encouragement to its listeners, pointing to the one true hope of the nations, Jesus. A lot of their songs are on my favorites list, the most recent one being "Right Beside You" featuring Fireflight's Dawn Michelle. They have been rocking since 1985, and yet today, their sound remains as fresh and youthful as when I first heard them with their earlier hits "Name", "Iris" and "Slide". The Pig in the Prodigal Son's Story

The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24) in the Bible is very familiar to most of us, but the emphasis has always been on the father, the son, and sometimes, the elder brother (and understandably so). But today, as we went through this passage at church, it occurred to me that there is yet another character in this story.

How did the prodigal son finally see that it is better in his father's presence? He met a pig.

In this story, the pigs could represent the children of God:

  • They were fed even during the famine. God provided for their needs, and so does God provide for the needs of His children.
  • They were considered animals of the lowly kind. We must be willing to put ourselves in a position of humility and let God use us.
  • They made the prodigal son realize that life would be better if he returns to his father. Ultimately, they led the son back to his dad, just as God's children should also lead people back to Him.

Do you want God to use you so His lost children could be found again? If so, be a pig.

Nokia Lumia 720 on Test Drive

Thanks to the Nokia Test Drive program that I participated in, I was recently able to have a first-hand experience on the Nokia Lumia 720. Basically, I signed up at the Nokia Philippines Facebook page, received a confirmation email and picked up the device at a Nokia Store in my area. Read on as I share my five-day get-to-know session with this Windows 8 phone.

Farewell, Killer Bee!

The station has gone unbranded since Easter and their Facebook page has already started the countdown to April 29, 2013 for The Big Reveal. But before we get to that, Killer Bee 92.3 still has to officially breathe its last, and here's their press release:

"NICE TO KNOW YOU, GOODBYE."
Killer Bee 92.3 Plays Its Last Song After 21 Years

Cebu City, Philippines – April 26, 2013. Cebu pop FM radio pioneer Killer Bee 92.3 will officially sign off after 21 years of spirited broadcasting. It was April 19, 1992 when it officially signed on and joined the fray of a then otherwise dreary FM radio landscape. With the airwaves dominated by oldies and love songs and announcers with prescription-modulated voices, Killer Bee sounded fresh. It had a 24 hour Contemporary Hit Radio format and a full on-air staff of young, vibrant and edgy, fast-talking DJs. With the now classic slogans "Cebu's 24-Hour Pop Radio" and "Loud and Clear Anywhere", a new generation of radio listeners made the Big Switch.

Killer Bee introduced the concept of active listening that encouraged more audience interaction and participation with phone-in contests, campus raids, sticker campaigns, movie premieres, regular parties and concerts. Early popular DJs were Jojo Banana, Frank Einstein, General John Stormy, Ali McCoy, Mermaid, Angelman, Barry Crocodile and Ray Parrot to name a few. Notable popular programs were Love Notes with Joe D' Mango, Bee Friday Madness, Bass Hour, Party on Weekend and The Final Countdown.

Killer Bee is owned by Quest Broadcasting Inc. and Tiger 22 Media. Its flagship station is Magic 89.9 in Manila. It has sister stations and affiliates in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, General Santos, Dumaguete, Zamboanga and Boracay. Current DJs are Mo Twister, Tony Toni, Slick Rick, Sam YG, Stein, Joe Romeo, Jack Stone, Bobby Bee, Andilicious and Chio Chaves.

Today is Killer Bee's last day of broadcast. The public is invited for the last time to listen to the radio station that has been part of their youth. What will the station play as their last song? Find out at five minutes before 12 MN on April 26, 2013. It will be Magical.

Kulay Malazarte Campaign Jingle

The senatorial and local polls are just a few weeks away, so I'm actually feeling it to turn back the hands of time once again and go back six years ago for this actual campaign jingle I recorded for Kulay Malazarte. He ran for barangay councilor in 2007 and here is his election anthem to the tune of "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston.

Austin Mahone, "Heart in My Hand" [OPC10 2013.4.21]

The highest new entries on the Overall Picks and Popout Tracks charts reveal the child inside of me. Hideaki Takatori's "Minna Atsumare Kyoryuger" and Showgo Kamada's "Vamola Kyoryuger" are respectively the closing and opening themes to the current Super Sentai series, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. The ending song takes the higher ranking as it is a fun tune one could dance along to.

Another debut on the OPC10 comes from Austin Mahone. His follow-up single to "Say You're Just a Friend" featuring Flo Rida is a very short, piano ballad called "Heart in My Hand." An extended version of this song could probably show up sooner or later. But for the meantime, here's the 17-year old guy from Texas with a beach video of this track that comes in at #5 this week:

Game Review: Hill Climb Racing

Hill Climb Racing is an iOS and Android game by Fingersoft that lets you drive a vehicle through a series of terrains. The objectives are to not run out of gas, to keep the driver alive and to go as far as possible. Don't expect an actual race in this game though as there is none, but there is definitely lots of hill-climbing.

In this game, you only get two controls: Brake and Gas. That means driving might be quite easy to learn, although doing it skillfully could take a while. You pick up coins along the way which you can use to upgrade your vehicle, unlock stages and purchase other vehicles. The game looks like it follows the law of physics well, and I commend them for that. The gas indicator is a different story though. It seems like it primarily functions as a timer rather than actual gasoline consumption. And while I'm not really a fan of the graphics (the coins' appearance and font could be much improved), it is acceptable and shouldn't be a showstopper of some sort.

92.3 Cebu Official On-Air Statement

92.3 Cebu recently started airing this message for the listeners. To quote:

"We wanted a perfect ending. And the perfect time is about to come. Pretty soon, we will take our last deep breath. A very sad moment for all of us here. But please know that even though we haven't met all of you, we love you. Even though we didn't get to shake your hands, we feel connected to you. The hardest part of this is letting go. But we believe that starting over again will be very easy. It's just important for us to say farewell and move on because we have to. Don't be sad because it's the end of our journey. Be happy cause it might just be the start of a new beginning. Thank you for making us a part of your youth. For that, we will always be in love with you. Until next time."

Killer Bee, I never wanted it to end. But I understand it's your time to go. For the music, for the fun times, for the friendship, please hear my heart-felt thank you. I will eagerly wait for your next incarnation. But I will miss you, and please know that you will always leave a beautiful sting in my heart.

Update: Looks like "the big reveal" will be on April 29, 2013. So let's all find out together on this day what exciting things await us in the new 92.3. I guess it will be mind-blowing, awesome, great, ingenious and cool.
